"My Bahbit Was...Laziness"

" I read your book," Roger said. "I realized I've gotten lazy so I got up the next morning and cleaned my office and then my pool. I just needed to be motivated a little."

And this is remarkable because it comes from a 76 year old gentleman undergoing treatment for prostate cancer. He needed to refocus, to look around at the clutter, to step back and feel better about his surroundings and to take his mind off problems many can never imagine.

It takes focus, it takes physical action. What's your Bahbit? Whether it's exercise, finance, relationships, or just getting rid of all the clutter in your busy world, don't wait! You never know where you'll be at 76 years old.

"My Purpose is...."

"So, you're 80 years old now, you've lived 23,200 days." I asked Marilynn, with all that living behind you...what do you think your purpose was?"

She thought, fiddled a little and said," I don't really know now, it just kept changing."

One man told me his purpose was "to exist" and another was more focused on "to help others."

In the younger population, under 45 years old, those rushing to find the "something" they'd lost in the clutter built chasing that very thing, there seems to be an increasing urgency to find it, to secure it, to hold it and say finally, " I found my purpose."

Interestingly, in my medical practice, those who've lived their days very seldom can define that one purpose. Most admit their purpose was like puddy, like the wind, and like the seasons, changing and unexpecte and full of surprises induced by habits and environment and influenced by a variety of though, emotions, and belief.

One thing was constant, each purpose chaser had the same time to chase...and in doing so, waffed through the most important days of their existance.

Life is rich..."It's 5AM- chase the moment and grasp the time you have."

"It Took 5 Hours Longer"

I was helping a client streamline her work flow and to begin the process of clearing the clutter that took every minute of her day. We made a deal. I asked her to list 3 projects she had to get done and.. do only the one project that was most important for now. She told me it would only take a couple hours and the next morning she started.

She completed the project 5 hours later than her plan and as we moved toward the other two projects she realized that each could take her more than twice her "assumed" time to completion.

Her Bahbit wasn't planning or even time management...it was a long standing habit of overload and lack of awareness. It was always easy for her to say "I'm behind" and "I'm never caught up" and listen to her Bahbit tell her, "That's just life...that's your story and you have to do it."

I've heard that story from too many people at the end of their lives...it's about waking up and getting a new focus on what we do with the moments that build a day...the only day you're in.

We walked through her day...just like Mike in 5AM & Already Behind, and stopped the evergrowing conduit of unecessary actions that kept her away from telling her real story...

Your can control your moments if you can control the Bahbit that keeps telling you, "This is all there is." Time one project and ask yourself..."Is this worth the only time I have?"

" I Decided to Confront My Bahbits"

This a recent Email in response to one of my weekly stories. Excuses are you Bahbits favorite tool to keep you from creating a new story...

"I read your book and I also decided to confront my bahbits. I stopped using my "bad foot" as a reason not to exercise. I joined a gym and spoke to a personal trainer who showed me all the exercises I could do that will not injure my foot further. I have only been to the gym a couple of times and have already lost 3 pounds! I am working my way up to going 4 times a week. I was so tired of looking for the easy way out of everything - ... I stopped smoking and joined a gym!"

No more exuses..

" I Use Your Philosphy"

This is an Email from a new friend I met while speaking at Extreme Business Makeovers in Orlando, Fl in July 2008. What about our kids?

"I use your "philosophy" on bahbits everyday now. Each time I want to do something that is not good for me, I think about you and everything I have learned from the seminar and your book and I make a better choice."

"I am eliminating my bad habits one bahbit at the time and by doing it this way I find I am more in control and not overwhelmed. I am soooo glad I met you and purchased your book, it is really changing my life.....on bahbit at the time."

"I have also talked to my kids about bahbits and they too are making small steps to make better choices in their lives. They are 12 and 16, so someone is never too young to start this lifestyle of forming better habits."

"My Wife Read Your Book and Lost 16 Pounds"

The intent of 5AM & Already Behind is to teach folks how life saving one small habit change can have in their lives.

This was a story from a young police officer who fights weight and habits given him by genetics and the eating habits that caused obesity in high school. It's not only a daily chore...it's a moment to moment awareness of what can be.

As newlyweds, he and his wife want the best of life. "I am Mike," he told me. But the best part of the story was the fact that his wife saw the exercise routine that had replaced his Bahbit of overeating and read the book and focused.

"Her Bahbit was her weight and she really went at it... changed her diet and gets to the gym. She read the book I bought and beat me, she has lost 16 pounds," he said.

The lesson...we can help people see the possibilities in their life if we find our Bahbit, that one habit that will make all the difference in our story. His wife saw a new life through his efforts...and both of their stories have changed.

Life is Rich...go show somebody what you're doing!

"I Make Time for It Now"

The book, 5AM & Already Behind, is about Mike and his habits and his need to see a different day and live a different story.

David is like Mike and you. He's 55 years old and a banker and knew he should exercise, he knew he was tired, he knew he needed to change...so he did!

"I decided I had to do something different so I make time for it now. I walk my dog for three miles every morning and I'm feeling so much better and my weight is down," He told me this morning.

Your "Bahbit" loves the ritual of "Easy" and will keep your health and your dreams buried in the clutter of meaningless activity. It only takes a simple action to change your story...but don't wait..it's already late and your Bahbit is telling you a lie.

Life is Rich!
